The Institute has been awarded funding under round 9 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative through the NHVR and the Australian Government.
All heavy vehicle modifiers and Accredited Vehicle Examiners (AVEs) have a responsibility to their customers, regulatory authorities and ultimately the community to ensure that modified vehicles are safe and reliable. This involves maintaining professional standards, training, accountability, traceability, compliance with standards and codes - and always striving for industry best practice.
This project is intended to improve the education and awareness of AVEs and heavy vehicle modifiers about their obligations and responsibilities and arises from concern by vehicle industry suppliers and operators about the lack of understanding and poor practices employed by some heavy vehicle modifiers. In many cases, the modifications affect the safety or legal status of the vehicle. The Institute will develop an on-line education and awareness course to provide detailed information for modifiers and AVEs. The course would be developed as a collaborative partnership with partners including the CVIAA.
